The Veterans Crisis Line connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring Department of Veterans Affairs responders through a confidential toll-free hotline, online chat, or text. Veterans and their loved ones can call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, chat online, or send a text message to 838255 to receive confidential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Support for deaf and hard of hearing individuals is available. |
Veteran Staffing Network:
The Veteran Staffing Network is a staffing agency. They provide temp-to-perm, contract, and direct-hire placements. Instead of serving the general public, however, they put our veterans on a meaningful career path. They do this by bringing together diverse constituencies and strengths to support both the business seeking to hire top-notch employees and veterans transitioning to civilian life. Their commitment is to personally get to know you, your skills, and career aspirations. Their career coaches and recruiters will get you on the right path toward those goals. They support all military skill sets and occupational specialties. Their job is not to simply get you any job, but more importantly, to get you meaningful employment. |
Marine Executive Association:
The Marine Executive Association is a national, volunteer, non-profit organization of former and current active duty Marines who provide assistance to Marines transitioning from active duty to reserve/retired status, leaving the Corps at the end of obligated service or moving from one civilian career/job to another. Transition assistance includes: Resume review; Job hunting and interview tips and techniques; Job posting by employers to the MEA web site; Resume posting by Marines for employer download; and resume and interview coaching by volunteer Marines. The MEA provides a weekly E-Mail list of all jobs that have been posted during the previous week and resumes posted for employer download, review and screening. Sign up on-line. Marine for Life:
Marine For Life is a Marine Corps organization that provides nationwide assistance to Marines who are returning to civilian life, Marine reservists and all Marine veterans throughout their lives. Marine For Life also assists Sailors who have served with Marine Corps units. Marine For Life began in 2002 at the direction of then-Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Jones. The organization enables Marines who move on to civilian life, after serving honorably, to stay a part of the Marine Corps family and brotherhood. The goal of Marine For Life is to harness the skills, contacts and personal and professional networks of Marine Corps veterans and others in the community—to form a network to help Marines. Are you transitioning out of the military? Are you a veteran or a military spouse looking for your next career? Join the 100,000 Jobs Mission Veteran Talent Exchange (VTX) to receive job announcements from 1,000,000 Jobs Mission member companies as well as tips and tools to optimize your job search. This is the second chapter of JP Morgan Chase’s veteran’s job effort. The 1,000,000 Jobs Mission is a coalition of private sector companies committed to hiring at least 1,000,000 U.S. military veterans by 2020. The coalition was launched in 2011 by eleven companies including: AT&T, Broadridge Financial Solutions, Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Cushman & Wakefield Inc., EMC Corporation, Iron Mountain Incorporated, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Modis, NCR Corporation, Universal Health Services, Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. Since then, the 100,000 Jobs Mission has grown to more than 120 companies that represent almost every industry in the American economy. Each company has committed to hire veterans, report their hiring number on a quarterly basis and share best practices. Together, the 1,000,000 Jobs Mission companies have hired 92,869 veterans through the third quarter of 2013. |
Hiring Our Heroes
Hiring Our Heroes, a program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, was launched in March 2011 as a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, their goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day. Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 560 hiring fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. Through March 31, 2013, 20,200 veterans and military spouses had obtained jobs. |
Make The Connection:
Make The Connection is a public awareness campaign by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that provides personal testimonials and resources to help Veterans discover ways to improve their lives. Many of our Nation’s Veterans—from those who served in World War II to those involved in current conflicts—return not only with physical wounds but also mental health issues they may not recognize. The Make the Connection campaign encourages Veterans and their families to "make the connection"— with information and resources, with the strength and resilience of Veterans like themselves, with other people, and with available sources of support including mental health treatments. |
