Combat Art - The Second Inter-War Period: 1975 to 1990: Granada, Lebanon and Somalia
In 1983 the 22nd Marine Amphibious Unit joined with other US forces to invade Granada, which had been taken over by a Cuban supported overthrow of the government.
In the same year the Marine Corps, which had entered Lebanon in 1982 in a peace-keeping role, suffered 220 BLT 1/8 Marines and 18 Sailors killed when a suicide bomber blew up their barracks. Also killed in the blast were 3 US and 58 French Soldiers.
